LOST indeed

LOST has completely jumped the shark. Next week will be pretty shitty with finals coming up. When I think about high school, I met a lot of irrelevant people. But I did meet two people during my time in high school.

That stand with me on my ups and downs. I somehow have this picture that when college is all said and done, and I go off into industry, and decide to start my own company. The same two people will be standing by my side.

I speak to my dad everyday, and my mom as much as I can. My dad is just so cool. I view my education and why I like the things I do, because he encouraged me to pursue them. My parents were very hands off parents, they never set a curfew, they never asked me where I’ve been even if I pulled in at 4 am. My parents never forced me to go into any one major, or even bothered to ask me about my grades. They just wanted me to do whatever I enjoyed and do it well. Which might guilt me even more, to make sure I don’t let them down.

I am official done with dealing with some people. If you think I’m a cold-hearted bastard, so be it. Eventually you’ll get over it. I hate when people whine like little babies. Life is not fair, as my father said anything worth it is not easy. Maybe this is why I pursue things in vain sometime? And yes all humans are selfish and egotistical the worlds population is 6 billion and counting. We do what we think is best.

4/29/07

So lets see if Swine flu turns into a pandemic. More reason to believe we should just isolate ourselves for a little bit, until the fear reside.

I’m tired I need caffeine, I haven’t touch any today or yesterday, and I’ve been getting headaches ah caffeine withdrawal. And hey talk about Arlen Spector moving over, that was a big deal.

Risk

I was watching youtube today. I wonder much time is lost watching youtube. But I came across these videos.

I encourage you to read the DI’s 4 part series on learning disabilities. I think it is well written and well researched. I did not write it. I will not get to write my own four part series until next semester. I am not happy that my active directory password was comprised.

If you have read the BBC news lately you would probably know that, they have their own train is moving across India with a broadcast station covering the election. I think it is pretty cool.

In other news, I think some people still miss the point. I guess that is what separates the people that are creative from the people that are trying just to get by. Consequently it is what separates the person that becomes the manager of the company, and the person that remains a employee. I am still a bit disappointed that I think a few people I know would have been able to do some pretty interesting things with their careers, had they not limited themselves arbitrarily. People are really not as open-minded as you think, that might be a property of the mid-west. We all like to cling to things, but change is ok. I remember Bill Clinton talking about people wanting to switch sides and become Democrats, they know they want to change, but their just scared to.

I think taking risks, and failing is more important instead of taking the easy route. Failure teaches you some really good lessons. In the future I may elaborate on why failure taught me some great lessons. I guess I am still pretty naive that I believe most people should look at the world the way I try to.

Assorted Cookies

At the moment I am eating some cookies from a box titled: Assorted Cookies. The price was not too bad $1.79, and the cookies taste good. Well, I finally have a little down time, basically now until 10 am. I was forced to clean my room, my mess was getting larger. The weather has been great lately.

I can’t believe I’m a junior in college, time does move remarkably fast. It is amazing how many people come and go through the years. I decided that life is too short to worry about small things. I guess you try your best, and hope for the best. I was watching some episodes of top gear today and they were driving around a Ferrari through Switzerland, and Italy. I kept thinking about how bad I really want a fast fast car.

The Russian Phil

So after staring at E&M problems that I can’t solve I’ve given up for the time being. I saw the National Philharmonic of Russia tonight, with my Russian, and Kazakhstani (imagine I said this with an accent) friends.

Earlier this week the US military rescued the US born captain of a ship that was held hostage by Somalian pirates. Obama ordered the military to use lethal force, they snipped all three pirates in the head. Guess no one is going to be wondering whether Obama is soft or not on terror, he signed that death order pretty easily. And notice he never made any public comments, Hillary made them all. OK back to work.

Religion in America

When I was in high school, I went to a very good liberal arts school, which is probably why I like history, politics and religion. I’m not bragging, I am merely explaining why I write about these things often. Over the course of a period of two years, I read over 2,000 pages studying religion in America. Different sects, different ideologies, different inceptions. I’ve read the Bible at lengths, the Talmud, curiously enough I haven’t read the Koran.

With Easter approaching I read a number of Newsweek articles talking about the US as a post-Christian nation. For the most part you shouldn’t think of post-Christian America as there being less believers in God. Rather it means that religion has less of an impact on the policies and laws of the United States. For instance most Christians are opposed to gay marriage, abortion, and evolution. However religious conservatives, have lost those battles regarding the teaching of evolution and in Iowa gay marriage was ruled legal last Friday.

Religion has always been a matter of faith. You either believe in God or you don’t. I think it is dismissive to say there is no God. The world and universe is pretty dazzling and to come about by random processes and form into a complex world, wouldn’t put the existence of a higher being out of order. The question is rather who is this higher being, is he the Christian God?

What attracts people to religion?Various things. Some people like religion because it gives them a sense of security. Some people like religion because it gives them a nice environment to be in. Some people like to believe their life has a higher purpose. Some people like religion because they are scared. Various reasons, and I’m not saying any of them are bad reasons.

I argue grasping religion is the of the hardest things ever. You are trying to grasp something that is intangible. You cannot see God, you can only believe. But contrary to misguided opinion. I don’t believe questioning your faith is unhealthy, exploring and finding answers on your own is important to strengthening your faith.

When it comes to following “rules”, i.e “dogma” because it is so hard in religion. The term cafeteria Christians has been thrown around. Christians that choose what they want to believe. A simple example, honesty, and treating people well is important to me. On social issues I am lax. For other people cursing is a big deal, for me I let it slide. While some of my friends would argue for Christan laws, and moving toward theocracy.

Some random questions:

Is it un-Christian to support people who have un-Christian values?
How Christian are you really?
How many of us say one thing and do another?

Should we date with the intention of marriage?
Even though most relationships fail early off.

Why do people equate tradition with religion?

i.e Bob Jones University a protestant fundamentalist University, in South Carolina. Prohibited interracial dating until 2000, because it said that “God intended segregation of the races and that the Scriptures forbid interracial marriage.”

In short yes it is complex.

Top Gear continued

So I accidently posted my entry without finishing my thoughts. Ah yes about the Stig, well the Stig is top gear’s mysterious race driver his idenitiy is never revealed on TV and it is one of the best kept secrets at the BBC.

I don’t think the stig really exists he’s just a figment of our imagination. In other news when can I afford to buy a nice fast car and a motorcycle.
